Cote d'Azur - Cote d'Azur
The region is dominated by the premier resorts of Nice and Cannes.
Nice acts as the capital of the Riviera – the city is highly cosmopolitan with the French, Italians, Swiss and British helping to contribute to the city’s population of 350,000. The city boasts a long parade touching a warm and clean Mediterranean Sea. The city also possesses an opera and a number of large markets.
Cannes is most famous for its numerous festivals. Regattas are commonplace but it is the media which excels – in January, Cannes holds the international Record and Music Market and in April/May the international market for Television programs arrives in town. The Cannes Film Festival is the highlight attracting the celebrity of Hollywood and enough visitors to treble the population. In addition, unlike the pebbly beach at Nice, Cannes possesses long stretches of sandy coastline.
Flights to Nice airport are available from over 30 UK Airports. Discount Airline Easyjet fly to Nice from Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Liverpool, Belfast and Newcastle. British Airways, British Midland, Flybe and Jet2 also fly to Nice.
By train, Rail Europe offer a service direct from London Waterloo to Nice.
The Cote d'Azur enjoys an excellent all-year-round climate. The summer months average over 73 °F (23 °C +).
